My Story

I developed my love of all things natural as a small child surrounded by plants and trees in my parents and grandparents gardens on the the outskirts of Sydney Australia.  Playing outside under the Australian sun, I was immersed in the aroma of orange blossoms,  rose and of course the distinct fragrance of Australian bush plants.  I even dabbled at my first attempt of blending scents when I mixed together a 'witches brew' in the bath tub using flower petals, mums good perfume and talcum powder and dad's black Indian ink which he needed for work.  I was one of those children that would go around with flowers in my hair and making friends with the trees.

Fuelled with these experiences and a revival at the time of all things colonial, I would often go on trips to Berrima in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales.  Here I found a place where I could while away the hours smelling traditional  lavender scented pouches and handmade bath salts.

Fast forward many years, I found myself living halfway around the world married to a British guy and giving up my teaching career to follow him to his new posting with the British Army.  I was fortunate to pick up a book on soap making and even more fortunate that my husband took me away for a break so that I could learn how to make cold pressed soap with Richard from the Soap Kitchen in Devon.

I coupled my love of natural botanicals, plants and nature with my personal need to make skincare products that would help my husband's sensitive skin.

You will notice as you follow my blog that you won't find bright colours in my toiletries as I only use natural botanicals  and clays to add colour  This produces colours you will find naturally in the earth.  I was disappointed when I first started making soaps as I had spent alot of money in the past on products that claimed to be natural but in fact weren't.   My experience has shown that the vibrant colours found in some soaps and bath bombs etc are produced by adding synthetic colourants to the recipe.
